St. Alban was the first British Christian martyr. He was beheaded during the first century. His story is crazy. The custom “A” is a subtle reference to St. Alban's death. A diagonal slice divides the upper arc (the head) and
 lower bowl (the body). The halo is made up of three rings that create the optical illusion of bursting radiance.
